This winter, we invite you to a new journey into the heart and genius of Beethoven, exploring the universal theme of the struggle between the individual and fate. Directing us will be our friend and Maestro, Alessandro Buccarella, who continues with us on the path toward completing Beethoven’s full cycle of symphonies.
The evening will open with the intense Coriolan Overture, Op. 62, a score that embodies the Beethovenian dualism between individual aspirations and the inevitability of fate. The character of Coriolanus reflects that of the composer himself, with “dark and violent” chords alternating with sweet, comforting harmonies.
Next will be the masterpiece that is the Fifth Symphony in C minor, Op. 67, the “Fate Symphony”—so named because of Beethoven’s response to Schindler regarding its fateful opening: “Thus Fate knocks at the door.” For Beethoven, the Fifth represents man’s tenacious struggle against fate, culminating in a powerful, undeniable final triumph.
The concert dates are: November 30th at Teatro San Raffaele in Rome, December 3rd at Teatro Palladium in Rome, and December 13th at the Aula della Cultura della Comunità di Etica Vivente in Città della Pieve (PG).
